Board Meetings
The Board's official business meetings will usually be held every other Tuesday for the 2016-2017 school year, beginning at 7:30 p.m. in the high school's Russell Lecture Room. (Enter from Farragut Ave. side of the building, take the first corridor on the right and the room is on the left.) These meetings are recorded and can be viewed on Channel 77 or via the link on the school's website.Click here for a calendar of meeting dates.
Roles and Responsibilities
The Board of Education serves as the policy making body for the district and has the following responsibilities:
  • Selecting the Superintendent as chief executive officer of the district and annually appraising his/her performance.
  • Defining the educational philosophy of the district.
  • Monitoring the effectiveness of district programs and services.
  • Appointing and setting salaries for professional and non-certificated personnel.
  • Establishing policies for the operation of the school district that allow it to meet the goals and purposes set out in the district's Philosophy Statement.
  • Preparing, presenting, and adopting a budget consistent with educational goals.
Public Comments
The Board encourages and welcomes all members of the community to its meetings, during which residents have an opportunity to raise issues and make comments. Please remember that Board meetings are never the place to speak on personal or personnel matters. In addition, there is a distinction between comment and discussion; the Board's response to issues will generally occur outside of business meetings. If you wish to address the Board, please sign up on the sheet posted at the entry door of the meeting room. When you speak, please step up to the microphone, state your name and address for the record, and direct your remarks to the president, not to the audience. You are asked to limit your remarks to three minutes.
Agendas
Agendas are posted online and copies are available at each meeting. Information can also be obtained before a meeting by calling the District Clerk, 478-6206. In order to make decisions at a meeting, Board members receive information on agenda items well in advance. The Board usually will not discuss items not on the agenda.
