Welcome to Hillside Strings! Playing a musical instrument can be an extremely rewarding experience. Through group lessons, individual practice, and ensemble work, your child will not only learn the fundamentals of playing a string instrument, but also the importance patience, perseverance, responsibility, and collaboration.Hillside 3rd graders have the opportunity to choose one of the following instruments: violin, viola, cello, or bass. To see and hear examples of each instrument, check out this video. Students participate in weekly group lessons where they are taught the skills and techniques necessary to progress on their instrument. Home practice is necessary when playing any instrument.Hillside 4th graders continue group string lessons and participate in the Hillside Orchestra. The orchestra rehearses once a week and has a performance at the end of the year. Students who demonstrate advanced skill level, effort, excellent conduct, and positive attitude may be invited to participate in the Hillside Chamber Orchestra.Students who enjoy playing a string instrument might wish to pursue private lessons.
