Physical Education Philosophy
Physical education is a sequential education program based on physical activities in an active, supportive, caring, and non-threatening atmosphere in which every student is challenged and successful.Physical education provides opportunities for all students to achieve the knowledge, skills, and values that will develop and strengthen their sense of well being and enhance the quality of their life through activity.
Physical education is not just about health and fitness. It is about life skills, including responsibility, respect, decision making, feelings of self worth, and a personal value system, all of which act as spring boards in the development of individual lifestyles. Such development is essential for each student to become an informed, healthy, productive, and responsible citizen.
Our mission here at Hastings UFSD is to encourage all students to sustain regular, lifelong physical activity as a foundation for a healthy, productive, and fulfilling life. Students are provided with a learning environment that is modified, when necessary, to allow for maximum participation. We hope that when our students leave Hastings they will have a positive attitude towards competition and realize that physical activity provides opportunities for enjoyment, challenge,self-expression, and social interaction.
Our curriculum is a working document. It is designed to encompass not only the psychomotor domain, but the cognitive and affective domains as well. This document has been aligned with the National and New York State standards.
