Welcome to Hillside Art!

Welcome to the Homepage of the Hillside Art Department. This page will be regularly updated with information about interesting projects and initiatives happening in the Art room.

The purpose of the elementary art program at Hillside is to have students experience thinking and creating like artists. Students are introduced to the creative process through aesthetics (the elements of art, principle of design, visual thinking strategies, and object based art history), through an art discipline (painting, drawing, sculpture, printmaking, ceramics, mixed media, etc.), through the material of art (pencil, crayon, clay, paper, water color, etc.), through art or cultural idea (Impressionism, African or Inuit Art, Hudson River Artists, etc.), and/or through contemporary social and personal issues (content-rich contemporary art).
