Diversity and Inclusion
Dr. Jenice Mateo-Toledo
Coordinator of Diversity and Inclusion
Welcome to the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) page!
At Hastings-on-Hudson, we are committed to creating a welcoming, supportive, affirming, and culturally responsive environment for all members of our community. Our ongoing efforts in diversity, equity, and inclusion aim to foster an atmosphere where every student, educator, and family feels valued, respected, and empowered. Through collaboration and dedication, we strive to build a community that celebrates diversity and ensures that all voices are valued.
Our work is guided by the New York State Culturally Responsive-Sustaining (CR-S) Framework, which is grounded in a cultural view of learning and human development in which multiple expressions of diversity (e.g., race, social class, gender, language, sexual orientation, nationality, religion, ability) are recognized and regarded as assets for teaching and learning (p.10). Additionally, The Portrait of a Hastings Learner outlines the key attributes and skills we strive to develop in our students, and reflects our commitment to developing a nurturing community of diverse learners who foster a just and compassionate society. These frameworks help shape our efforts to ensure that all students experience a sense of belonging and feel valued, respected, supported, and empowered to thrive academically and personally.
As a district, we are committed to approaching learning opportunities around culture and inclusion with openness, empathy, and respect, honoring our individuality while respecting our shared humanity. Through collaboration and collective dedication, we will continue to grow as a community, creating a space where all voices are celebrated. We are committed to building a more inclusive and equitable future for our children, preparing them to thrive in a diverse and interconnected global society.
