My name is Melissa Otivich and I have been teaching physical education for 20 years (16 at Hastings). I always knew I wanted to teach, as I have followed in my father's footsteps. He was a physical education teacher in Irvington for 34 years. I am also proud to say that I am a Hastings high school graduate.
I am passionate about what I do and believe in the importance of physical activity and social interaction. Physical education is not just about health and fitness. It is about life skills, including responsibility, decision making, respect, feelings of self worth, and a personal value system ,all of which act as springboards in the development of individual lifestyles.
