    The Physical Education Department has incorporated a word wall into their lessons, focusing onwords and terms used in our classes. Due to the overwhelming interest from the children, they decided to go one step further andare now introducing a monthly vocabulary word. The word for November will be“Anaerobe- an organism that lives without oxygen.”  Thechildren are actually grasping the concept that we are organisms made up frommultiple cells that have the ability to perform activities that are aerobic andanaerobic in nature, requiring great to very little oxygen to complete anactivity.

  • Happy Friday!

    Happy Friday!  We had a great first full week at Hillside!  Today we held our first fire drill of the year.  The children were wonderful.  They exited the building quickly and quietly.  As mandated by state law we will hold several more fire drills this fall.

    Just a reminder that Back To School Nights are next week.  Grades 3 & 4 are Tuesday, September 17th and Grades K, 1 & 2 are Thursday, September 19th.  Both evenings will begin at 7:00pm with grade level presentations followed by time in classrooms.  Specific grades will be presenting in the following areas so when you arrive, please go directly to the assigned area: Kindergarten - Cafe, 1st Grade - All Purpose Room, 2nd Grade - Small Gym, 3rd Grade - All Purpose Room, 4th Grade - Cafe.  At 7:45pm, you will be invited to the All Purpose Room (big gym) for refreshments provided by the PTSA and have the opportunity to speak with special area teachers, and numerous community groups.
     
    Pizza Friday does not begin until September 27th.  If you are interested in volunteering, please contact Micaela Peterson at micaela123@optonline.net

    On Monday, September 16th and Thursday, September 19th, Haven Colgate will provide an overview of the Nature Guide Program along with a tour of the Hillside Woods.  This is a great way to volunteer in your child's classroom!  Please arrive at 9:30am in the front circle.   • End of 1st Week

    Congratualtions!  We finished our first week of school.  I hope everyone had the opportunity to check out two Hillside children, Joseph Lemischak and Andreas Kotronis, on Channel 12 News!

  • School's Out For Summer!

    Hillside Elementary wrapped up another fantastic school year.  Students, staff, and parents worked incredibly hard to make the 2013-14 school a tremendous learning experience for all of the students.  Have a terrific summer and enjoy a well deserved rest.
