A Behind-the-Scenes Look Into Something Rotten! A Hastings Theatre Program Production
Last weekend, high schoolers lit up the stage with three presentations of their spring musical Something Rotten! It was the last Hastings Theatre production of the school year, and for seniors Luca Dimnet, Luke Dunn, Joe Hock, Sam Kennedy, Sander Markley, Miranda Mosco, Gigi Richter, Eli Rothstein, and Vivian Smith, the last production of their high school career.
Something Rotten! takes place in 1595 in London, England. The Bottom brothers, Nick and Nigel, are trying to find success by writing plays, but are outshined by the rock-star playwright of the Renaissance, William Shakespeare. Desperate to find success, Nick gets help from a soothsayer for the next big hit.
“The performance was full of energy!” said Production Coordinator Phyllis Udice. “You could feel the excitement the moment the red curtain opened and the cast belted out their opening song ‘Welcome to the Renaissance.’ The colors of the costumes, the beautifully designed set, and the eight-piece orchestra, matched the energy of the singing and dancing from all the performers. I’m so incredibly proud of all the people who were involved in bringing this production to life.”
Among those in attendance over the weekend was Superintendent McKersie.
“The musical was remarkable in so many ways, and with each and every cast and crew member clearly contributing to a production that I, for one, will never forget,” he said.
