Hastings' Academic Challenge Team Soars Onward in National Tournament

Questions Unlimited LogoThe Questions Unlimited Virtual National Tournament started this past weekend, and two Hastings teams put their skills to the test.

  • The A Team: Juniors Benny Feldman (Captain), Sonya Lasser, Owen Linder, and Jacob Goldman-Wetzler.
  • The B Team: Sophomores Callum McCabe and Jet Spiro (Co-captains), and Natalie Garson, Sofia Eliasi, and Jasper Zimmerman.

Each team who entered played six matches in the first round. To make playoffs, teams needed a 4-2 record. 

Traditionally, in Westchester matches, the A Teams play only against other A Teams and the same is so for the B Teams.

"But in Nationals, our B Team competes against the same teams as our A Team, so the bar is much higher for them," said Academic Challenge Team Advisor Michael Willson. "There were teams from our area, but also from all over the country. We played teams from Georgia, Pennsylvania, and Ohio."

Both Hastings teams came out unscathed with perfect 6-0 records, advancing them to the playoffs which will take place on June 11.
