Cross Country Teams Turn in Exemplary Performances

Two weekends ago at the Section One Championships for Cross Country the Hastings Varsity Girls team finished fourth overall in Class C!  During these races two HHS student-athletes qualified for the NYSPHSAA Championships in Plattsburgh this past weekend.

Aidan Gemme (class of '21) finished in 2nd place with a time of 17:02 while Caitlin Guilfoyle (class of '20) finished in 5th with a time of 21:23.   Caitlin returned to compete in the State championship after representing the Hastings during her sophomore year.  For the video of all of our athletes who participated in the Section One Class C Championships at Bowdoin Park in Wappingers Falls can be found here:  Varsity Boys & Varsity Girls

At this weekend’s (Nov. 16-17) NYSPHSAA Championship they both had amazing performances.  Aidan Gemme ran in one of the first races of the day and finished with a 12th place finish out of the fastest 132 runners in the State.  Aidan is in his first year of running XC and finished with a time of 15:21.4 beating out a senior runner from Pleasantville by 1/10th of a second making him the fastest Section One Class C Boys runner.

Returning to the State Championships after competing in her sophomore year, Caitlin improved wildly from her first performance!  Caitlin's performance had her finishing the race with a time of 19:06.1 which earned her 46th place.  This blistering pace is a 6:23 min/mile for the duration of the 3.0 mile race.  In response to her hard work, performance and leadership throughout the season Cailtin was awarded the NYSPHSAA Sportsmanship award for Section One.

These individual accomplishments are the culmination of a 5-1 record for both our Varsity Girls and Boys Cross Country teams.  The team has continued to build on their earlier successes at the League Championships where Aidan Gemme and Caitlin Guilfoyle came in first place earning the overall individual league championship.
