Melissa Szymanski appointed Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction for the Hastings-on-Hudson UFSD
It is with great pleasure that the Board of Education of the Hastings-on-Hudson UFSD announces the appointment of Ms. Melissa Szymanski as its Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction. The appointment was made at the June 3, 2019 Board of Education Meeting.
“This is a new position in the district, and the title reflects the importance the board is placing on evolving and strengthening our K-12 curriculum. The Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction will work collaboratively with the building and teaching leadership, and the broader instructional staff to ensure that our approach to learning and instruction is research-based, current, and best supports the needs of our students in a rapidly-changing world,” said Doug Sundheim, President of the BOE.
With more than 20 years of teaching and educational leadership experience, Ms. Szymanski is a welcome addition to the Hastings team. She is leaving her role as Principal of Concord Road Elementary School in Ardsley to further her passion of educating children to become strong, critical thinkers and passionate learners. “My work in Ardsley provided me with a strong foundation for this position by affording me meaningful experiences in designing and leading curriculum work in literacy, STEM, mathematics and technology; planning and leading professional development; developing curriculum leaders; supervising and coaching teachers; and enhancing the collection and use of formative data,” explained Szymanski.
Szymanski also expressed her excitement for the opportunity to expand upon her work to reach a broader range of students and adults as an assistant superintendent for curriculum and instruction.
The selection of Ms. Szymanski as Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction was made with the input of Hastings new Superintendent Dr. Valerie Henning-Piedmonte. Both educational leaders will begin their positions on July 1, 2019.
