Hillside Elementary School Kindergarten Class Celebrates Move to First Grade
Hillside Elementary School’s kindergarten class held a special celebration last week to mark their big move to first grade in the fall.
On one of the hottest days so far this season, the kindergarteners were treated to a day of special fun, filled with summer snacks and some sprinklers.
“We played in the sprinklers,” said Cassidy J. “It was so much fun!”
Parents were invited to join in on the celebrations for part of the day and listen to their graduates sing songs and recite poetry before watching them run into the sprinklers to cool off.
“I sang songs, and it was really good,” said Caroline E. “I’m happy my mom was here.”
For their teachers, the ceremony was both sentimental and uplifting, watching their students celebrate their advance to the next level, but mostly because they were able to do it with everyone together.
“It was very emotional for both teachers and parents,” said kindergarten teacher Nina D’Amato. “We didn’t think we’d be able to do this in this unprecedented time so it was very rewarding.”
