Hillside Elementary Students Show School Spirit Before Summer Sets In

Elementary school activitoesStudents across grade levels at Hillside Elementary School celebrated the end of the year by showing off their school spirit and hitting the field for some exercise with their classmates. Rain showers on Friday didn't stop the fun, either! The new multi-purpose room served as the afternoon event space for Field Day.

Members of Safety Patrol and the Student Council planned June Spirit Week. From Pajama Day and "Crazy for Summer" Day, to a day themed "Dream Big" where students dressed up in clothes that represented their future career goals, it was a great way to close the books on another successful school year.

A little friendly competition at Friday's Field Day was the icing on the cake.

In color-coded teams, students competed in races and problem-solving activities while cheering for each other and their school.

In his Community Update on Friday, Superintendent Dr. William McKersie said he could "share his words about the energy, spirit and joy" of Field Day, but "the best statement" was from a volunteer parent:

“Our [daughter] is in second grade, so this was her first real Field Day. Seeing the joy in all the kids, it was so infectious. I could see the painstaking detail that the physical education team, facilities and all of Hillside put into this wonderful event. It’s clear how hard everyone worked to put on such a great event…it was so great to see everyone out there, the whole staff community was so kind, enthusiastic and respectful to the kids.”
