Wellness Highlighted at Farragut Middle School
"For our newest middle schoolers, creatively designed and structured time to learn about and consider ways to maximize their health is essential," said Superintendent Dr. William McKersie. That's why, every year, the Fifth Grade Team, led by Shannon Gray, hosts a day devoted to wellness.
Wellness Day, which took place on Friday, October 21, began with a safety presentation by the Hastings Police Department followed by a variety of workshops on mindfulness, healthy snacks, hygiene, kindness, acceptance, and stress reduction, all led by Hastings teachers. There was even a movement workshop facilitated by the PTSA in partnership with an external company.
According to the Ancient Greeks, "mind and body should be in harmony." The extra effort put into Wellness Day activities is a prime example of how the district continues to incorporate this concept into the curriculum, teaching students the importance of self-worth and wellbeing at an early age and encouraging them to value their emotional and physical health.
