Colored in Character Unity Day

On Wednesday, October 22, 2019 the students at Hillside Elementary School celebrated Unity Day. In preparation for the day, kindergarten, first and second-grade students created a large UNITY banner. Students signed the banner, pledging their commitment to creating a bully-free environment at Hillside. Third and fourth-grade students participated in an Every Step You Take activity. The activity provided students with the opportunity to reflect on the steps they can take to promote unity at the school. This activity was designed to help students recognize that every step they take individually helps unite all students along the path for kindness, acceptance, and inclusion.

As part of the Colored in Character program, many students wore the color orange to show that they were together against bullying and united for kindness, acceptance and inclusion.
