Hillside Elementary Shows Spirit

Hillside Spirit In an effort to spread some cheer, Hillside Elementary students are being invited to share their spirit with ugly sweaters, jingle bells, candy canes and more.

When students returned to school Friday morning after Thursday’s storm, winter was welcomed with open arms in the classrooms. Some teachers and students dressed for the holidays, observing either “Ugly Sweater Day” or “Candy Cane Chaos Day” or both.

Third-grade teacher Phyllis Udice showed up to school in full festive attire on Friday, pairing her best ugly sweater with candy cane patterned pants. With some students learning remotely, she showed off her winter wear to the camera before proceeding with her daily lesson.

“I dressed up because I am very festive like that,” she said. “With the snow day, I think a lot of the kids actually forgot about it.”

Mrs. Udice The students, who were surprised to see some of their teachers dressed up, were also happy to hear that spirit week will continue remotely next week. Monday starts off with “Jingle Bells Day” which will allow the students to wear their jingle bells during school. Udice said that it was important to keep the holiday cheer coming this season and that she hopes everyone will participate.

“I know this holiday season is going to be difficult for most families to be able to celebrate,” she said. “I hope students and families can enjoy being together safely.”
