Farragut Middle Schoolers Bridge Daily Living Skills with Acts of Kindness

kids at tables Right before the holiday recess, middle schoolers in Larry Cerratani's first period class learned about ways to show kindness and gratitude.

"We landed on food donation as a possibility," said Cerratani.

Joining forces with high schoolers Gus Rensin and Jonah Sills, students prepared and assembled over 25 bagged meals for Project SHARE to use in their Midnight Run event in Dobbs Ferry.

"Gus is one of our National Honor Society peer buddies and is also involved with Project SHARE and the Midnight Run," Cerratani said. "This made organizing the donation a seamless process."

Midnight Run coordinates over 1,000 relief missions per year. Volunteers from churches, synagogues, schools and other civic groups distribute food, clothing, blankets and personal care items to homeless and others in need on the streets of New York City.

Cerratani is proud that his students were able to contribute to the cause.

"They bridged their functional skills with their desire to spread kindness and thankfulness," he said about his class. "The experience was meaningful for all of us."

Cerratani and his students plan to participate in another food donation opportunity before the end of the school year.
