Kevin Hanlon Appointed Assistant Principal of Farragut Middle School

June 16, 2020 – The Hastings-on-Hudson Board of Education is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Kevin Hanlon as the new Assistant Principal of Farragut Middle School in Hastings-on-Hudson, NY effective July 1, 2020. Mr. Hanlon comes to Hastings after ten years with the Port Chester School District. The appointment was made at the June 15, 2020 Board of Education Meeting.

Superintendent of Schools Dr. Valerie Henning-Piedmonte stated, “It is with great enthusiasm I present Mr. Hanlon to the Board for appointment as Middle School Assistant Principal. He has been lauded by his former school district as an incredible role model and advocate for English Language Learners, a rock star, and awesome teacher and leader.”

Mr. Hanlon’s career in education has been with the Port Chester Middle School for the past ten years. He served as Math Teacher for grades 7, 8, and Algebra 1, New Teacher Mentor, Math Department Chair, Assistant Principal Intern, and Academy Leader. As Math Department Chair, he created an integrated Algebra and Algebra 1 curriculum resulting in a 100% passing rate for students. Well versed in technology usage for educational purposes, Mr. Hanlon implemented a Google Sites initiative, integrated technology into the mathematics curriculum, and implemented data-informed instruction.

Upon the appointment, Kevin Hanlon thanked the Board and expressed how excited he is to become a member of the Hastings family. He believes his experience as a Department Chairperson, Grade Level Team Leader (Academy Leader), Teacher Leader, Mentor, and Coach has prepared him to make a significant contribution to Farragut Middle School.

Mr. Hanlon received a B.S. in Marketing from Providence College; a M.A.T. in Mathematics Education and Professional Diploma in Educational Leadership from Manhattanville College; and holds certifications as NYS School Building Leader, NYS School District Leader, and NYS Mathematics (Grades 5 – 12).

Farragut Middle School, with 510 students in grades 5 – 8, is known for its exemplary work in bringing conversations about diversity to the forefront through the creation of its Courageous Conversations course. This groundbreaking and transformative curriculum is required for students in grades 6 – 8 to help them develop the language and agency to talk about racism, implicit bias, and microaggressions. FMS was named a 2016-2017 National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence.
